Rockstar Therapy is an evidence based therapy clinic that is set in a supportive, neurodiverse affirming, professional yet non-clinical environment - who says therapy can't be cool?
Director Luke Edwards is a qualified and experienced Social Worker with over 25 years working with children, young people and families for both government and community, including Parent Infant Psychotherapist/Benevolent Society, Coordinator Bridge Program/CatholicCare and Child Protection for the NSW Government.
Luke specialises in support and therapy to treat anxiety, depression, social, developmental and behavioural disorders, neurodivergence challenges, trauma and parenting issues. Typical services provided include:
- Support and therapy for anxiety and depression.
- Support and advice for parents.
- Support and therapy for challenges relating to neurodivergence (ASD, ADHD and more).
- Case management and liaison with other services and professionals.
- Our Inclusive Arts Program (IAP).
- NDIS specific programs that support your goals.
ROCKSTAR THERAPY has now launched its Inclusive Arts Program - "Support Band". Support Band is a Rockstar initiative and collaboration between Luke Edwards (Rockstar Director) and Mark Evans (ex AC/DC), and aims to engage young people with neurodiverse, mental health and disability challenges and support them to connect and create music, build relationships and perform. See the "Support Band" Page for further details.
Therapy combined with music based activity combines the benefits of music (therapeutic engagement, motor skill and cognitive development, emotional expression, emotional regulation) with traditional talking based therapies (cognitive, emotion and brain/ neurological based).
Music activates almost all of your brain’s different regions and networks, and strengthens connections between different parts of the brain. It strengthens learning, memory and cognition and assists with reducing stress on the brain and supporting emotional regulation.
This approach is particularly beneficial for children and young people who struggle to engage with mainstream approaches. We also provide case planning and management to support your goals and facilitate communication and strategic coordination between health professionals, schools and families.
Social Work places psychological and neurological matters within their developmental, social and environmental context.
Social Workers are the largest group of allied health professionals, and the psychosocial approach unique to the Social Work profession allows a comprehensive multidimensional approach - essential for strategic and successful assessment, support and intervention.
When addressing psychological issues and working towards specific goals, the Social Work approach will also assess contextual issues that are impacting upon psychological well being and development. As facilitators of change, we may engage with external organisations to create better outcomes for our clients.
Consistent with Social Work principles, Rockstar Therapy approach aims to not only address immediate challenges but to also facilitate the development of internal and external resources that will sustainably support the growth of capacity and resilience in children, teens and adults.
At Rockstar Therapy, our goal is to help everyone feel like a rockstar. We support our clients to become more active, independent, to build resilience and develop a stronger positive identity. We are able to provide a unique methodology in which clients receive evidence based therapeutic support and case management but in a non stigmatising environment and with the option of combining the benefits of inclusive music based activities.
Our multi-modal, strength based and inclusive approach has had tremendous results. Harry Brown ("Houndog Harry") has been a part of Rockstar for over 7 years, and through our Inclusive Arts Program has become a successful drummer, vocalist, songwriter and recipient of a Dylan Alcott Foundation grant - providing funding to record and create video clips for his two original songs - "My Life Is Delicious" and "Going Out". He has performed on numerous occasions in his community and last year performed to a packed Factory Theatre with Director Luke Edwards and ex-AC/DC bassist Mark Evans. We look forward to continuing to facilitate, resource and support Harry's success in the music industry.
Therapy at Rockstar usually fits within your Capacity Building Supports budget which includes:
